When it comes to the hard-hitting action of Super Smash Bros. Melee, one company implored the gaming world to “Show Us Your Views!”

We have answered the call.

In a partnership unseen in five years, Show Me Your News! (SMYN) and Major League Gaming (MLG) are teaming up to revitalize the online coverage for the Super Smash Bros. franchise. As it is currently planned, Peter “Youko” Spezia will cover play-by-play, while Miles “Solharath” Allen and Tony “TonyTH” Mattingly will provide color commentary for the Super Smash Bros. Melee championship bracket at MLG Championship Anaheim. The event runs from June 20-22, 2014 in Anaheim, California. While 1024 players are expected to participate in open competition, the top 20 will make the final championship bracket.

“This is a great honor for our podcast,” Spezia stated, “Major League Gaming has recognized our dedication to the Smash Bros. series and has graciously rewarded us with this opportunity. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”

“We get to expand our potential audience,” Mattingly expressed, “Not only that, but new viewers to the game get to benefit from our fresh perspective on Smash Bros. and the gaming industry. It’s a win-win for both sides.”

Fans of SMYN might recall that relations between the podcast and MLG were not always so amicable. Some bitterness ensued when Major League Gaming purchased Smash World Forums in the summer of 2009, deserting SMYN’s established fanbase that listened through iTunes. Other details of SMYN-MLG interaction have remained a secret, but all seems to be resolved today.

“I think the fact that I now play Smash professionally helped mend things,” Allen speculated, “Though, while Project M isn’t Melee, I think it gives our group a restored sense of Smash credibility.”

Those who have followed Melee’s recent rise in broad eSports appeal may be confused by this move. Many Smash enthusiasts today look to the Melee It On Me podcast and community platform as the leaders in this area of expertise.

“There’s no disrespect intended to Prog and D1. They do amazing work on the mic, but this is strictly a business move,” Spezia asserted, “From what I understand, this is the only gig we get. It’s all part of the deal and we had some leverage. MLG owed us a pretty big favor and we just had to wait for the right moment.”

What if this really is the perfect time for the SMYN crew, though? The podcast about gaming industry news has been breaking down the DOJO-like Miiverse updates for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS, yet with the Anaheim Championships slated to take place after E3 2014, are we likely to see a public demo for the new game at this MLG event?

“We’ll just have to see, won’t we?” Allen pondered with a twinkle in his eye, “It would be very fortuitous for us to be able to provide commentary on that game as well. Not to mention, if any new characters are revealed! Maybe the answer for all of that is in the clouds, though.”

When asked if he would provide his fan-favorite wrestling angle, Mattingly replied, “Oh, for sure! The people’s champ aMSa, going up against Mango Nation? What if Armada shocked everyone and came out of retirement, just to go up against Mew2King? What if there’s some drama behind the scenes with Dr. PeePee? The stories almost write themselves! I hope the Anaheim crowd is ready for a show!”

Rumor has it that Read the Manual‘s Joe “TheDobaga” DeVader and Ben “GymLeaderBen” Higbee will be recruited to provide sideline reporting, though this is unconfirmed at this time.

Youmacon 2013 is complete, as is our post-con hangover. I must apologize that a montage video is not possible again this year, but please understand when I say that I have my reasons for this. Anyway, we debuted several brand new videos at our two panels, plus Cyberlink420 was kind enough to record the panels for us! That said, here’s a breakdown our panels and the videos, in case you weren’t able to attend this year’s Youmacon!

Whether or not you are attending, as a member of this community, it will be upon you before you know it.

Youmacon is an anime/gaming convention in Detroit, Michigan that means a great deal to this community. Every year since 2009, SMYNjas have used it as a place to meet up and have fun together. That number has steadily increased every year and for its 2013 iteration, we’re looking at the attendance of more than 20 people with connection to the Show Me Your News Network.

So what does this mean for you? Well, let’s start with…

Super and Tony have left “The Dojo” and it was one wild, extended weekend. If you missed any of the livestreaming – which let’s be honest, you probably did with all the EVO action – we uploaded a bunch of highlights to our YouTube channel. These include long-plays of streaming sections and brief moments.

The following playlist includes 41 videos and over 11 hours of content, so find what you want to watch here! Leave us some comments on what you like!

Personally, I think one of my more favorite moments had to have been this one.

What are your thoughts on this weekend’s events? Is it something we should do next year? How would you improve it?

It begins! For the third year in a row, we are streaming all day long in celebration our anniversary. Join us as SMYN is now six years old!

We will be active on Twitter as well with stream notifications and interaction, through our account @showmeyournews. Please include us in tweets and use the hashtag #6YearsofSMYN for engagement with this weekend’s SMYN festivities.

Perhaps this video will explain it all for you, but hit the jump after to see a text breakdown of the things we have planned to go LIVE over the next few days.

Does anyone remember last year’s Fifth Anniversary stream? Where we broadcasted shenanigans all day long?

Good. Because another year is upon us. And we’re celebrating more than ever before!

This year, Super and Tony will be traveling to our house, “The Dojo,” on Thursday, July 11th, 2013 and they will be staying for the entire weekend.

Now, we do have a weekend of fun times to get up to, some of which may be livestreamed, but that time of year has arrived where we gauge your interest for what you would like to see in our ALL-DAY STREAM, which will take place on Saturday, July 13th, 2013.

For past reference, here was LAST YEAR’S planned schedule with CyberLink420…
11 AM – 12 PM: Pikmin (GCN)
12 PM – 1 PM: N64Ever Recording (Secret Game)
1 PM – 2 PM: Sonic Adventure DX (GCN)
2 PM – 3 PM: Youko’s iTunes – Music Trivia
3 PM – 5 PM: Super Smash Bros Brawl ONLINE
5:00 – 5:30 PM: FOOD
5:30 – 6:00 PM: M&M Kart Racer (Wii)
6 PM – 7 PM: Metagame (Gaming Card Game)
7 PM – 8 PM: Mega Man Legends (N64)
8 PM – 9 PM: Charades with Livestream Chat
9 PM – 10 PM (or later): UMvC3 EVO Finals

A lot of those were specific to CyberLink (M&M Kart, Metagame) and the schedule did change at times, especially closer to the end of the day. Now we have more guests to account for and a whole new set of possibilities!

The question remains: Which games or activities would you like to see livestreamed on our all-day celebration?

We will take your suggestions and we hope to set up an official schedule soon. In the meanwhile, please feel free to join us at 2 PM ET today for Episode 138 of SMYN!

All current and future livestreams take place at our Twitch.TV account.

Phew! It has been quite an E3, hasn’t it?

A lot happened in the gaming industry this week. Most notably for Nintendo fans, “Smash 4” was finally confirmed as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. That means a lot to us, considering Super Smash Bros. Brawl served as the foundation for this show back in the days of The DOJO!!

Did you get the chance to see how Super, Tony, and I reacted to the trailer reveal during Nintendo Direct?

Some of you may be wondering about if and how Show Me Your News will be taking charge and leading the discussion on Super Smash Bros. anticipation. It’s actually very simple…and not so much at the same time.

YES – SMYN will be covering Smash once again!

HOWEVER – Doing so, while managing our other network shows and our personal lives, keeping the integrity of what SMYN has become since the Brawl days, and appealing to the Smash fans that mean the world to us is a very difficult task. We still have yet to determine the best course of action for deciding what our Smash coverage will entail, but we do know that we want to be the name that everybody looks to for that discussion, just like before. If you’d like to contribute your feedback on what Smash coverage you’d like to see from us, while maintaining this delicate balance, we welcome you to leave us a comment about it.

On another note, with E3 at its conclusion, it’s time to announce the winner of our YES/NO Contest! The person with the most answers correct out of 50 gets to be on the post-E3 episode (Ep. 137) of Show Me Your News with us!

With 39/50 correct, that person would be…YOUKO! I know, I know, the hosts don’t technically count for the contest. But you gotta admit, that’s not too shabby on my part.

With 37/50 correct, our actual guest on SMYN 137 will be…JOE BUSH (aka Detlef Schrempf)! Congratulations! Recognition is also in order for SolidSnake120, MegaMarth96, and Peofun1 (who answered all NO), who tied for second place with 34/50 correct. Full statistics can be found by viewing our hopefully-accurate Excel document. These decisions are final, as exceptions will only be made for significant errors in data input.

Because we were only to determine the winner now, combined with the fact that this weekend is awfully busy for all of us (Father’s Day, work, camp, and more), we have to push back our full E3 podcast coverage to next weekend. I know, this unfortunately doesn’t make the full look back seem as timely, but this should allow all of us to participate, in addition to waiting for more of the E3 dust to settle.

However, never fear! I will be working on a TOP TEN (remember those things?) to be released this weekend. The topic? Top 10 E3 Takeaways. It should be a good one, with a smattering of the most readily apparent observations I had from this week’s events.

Please stay tuned for that and look forward to our full E3 coverage, coming soon!

What was your favorite news to come from E3?

Last year we gave this a try and worked rather well, but with practice comes perfection, so this year’s E3 call-in show will hopefully go smoother and sound better than ever before! Fire up Skype, because it’s time for Show Me Your News!

SMYN: Episode 136
DATE: SATURDAY, JUNE 8th
TIME: 3:00 PM ET (Noon Pacific, 19:00 GMT)
GUEST: ANYONE THAT CALLS IN

This episode will be broadcasted LIVE at http://www.twitch.tv/showmeyournews – anybody will be able to listen to the whole thing there. We will try to keep things brief, even though this tends to be a rather long show.

To BE A GUEST on the call-in show, you will have to do the following:
– Have a Skype account, which is free and easy to do.
– Search for SMYNHost and add him as a contact at any time. This will be SwordHunter acting as a moderator and he will be able to add you to our call at his chosen, designated time.
– Instant message him at any time during the show, telling him that you wish to be a guest, the sooner the better. He will add you into a special Skype text chat with everyone that he will select guests from.
– Keep an eye on the Skype chat so you can respond quickly when he asks if you are ready to be on the show.
– Please MUTE YOUR LIVESTREAM of the show before you are on the air to prevent echoes.

ALSO, submissions for the YES/NO contest will be CUT OFF at 12 PM ET on Saturday. I will need the time to do some calculations and do stat prep. You can still submit your final application in this thread HERE.

We will try to get everyone who calls some airtime. Meaning, we will at least try to get you on for at least one question, as we will be discussing all 50 from the contest. The fewer people that call-in, the longer you get to stay on.

Like last year, you will have to go big, or…be hung up on quietly. Before your time on-air is over, we will ask for your BIG BOSS PREDICTION. This will be a statement that you think has a chance of happening at E3, but it’s got to be GUTSY (aka BIG BOSS) to get our audio seal of approval. It may sound confusing now, but you’ll get the hang of it. Just have a gutsy prediction (that isn’t an impossible one) ready!

Please feel free to ask any questions here, and let’s get the E3 hype train rolling!

Hello, fans of Show Me Your News! As announced on Episode 135 of SMYN, we are holding a E3-themed contest that has a very simple premise!

THE CONCEPT

– You will be asked 50 questions regarding what may or may not occur at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. These are questions that will be definitively answered “YES” or “NO” by the time the expo comes to a close.
– All you have to do is answer each question with “YES” or “NO,” as well as answer the tiebreaker question with a number.
– The hosts will reveal their answers on Episode 136 of SMYN, which we plan on setting up as a live call-in show, a la talk radio.
– The fan with the highest percentage of answers correct, as determined by the hosts at the end of E3, will be asked to be a guest on the post-E3 episode of Show Me Your News.

THE RULES

– You must submit your answers IN THIS THREAD for them to be valid. While this may seem like a draw to make fans register at our amazing community, it is also a method to ensure fair play, as it may be seen if you have edited your post (and your answers). It is simply a way to make sure cheating does not occur. And it makes it much easier for us to collect all the submissions and grade them after E3 ends.
– In order to be a guest on SMYN, you will need a working computer microphone and have no qualms (parental, etc.) with having a Skype call with us. This does not mean you cannot enter the contest, but if you win and are not able to be a guest for either of these reasons, we will have to consider the fan with the next highest score.
– Submissions must be entered a few hours before we go live for Episode 136 of SMYN. This will occur likely around Saturday, June 8th. Therefore, the sooner you submit your answers, the better chance you have of the deadline not passing you by. However, once you submit your entry, those are the answers we will stick with for your official submissions. Any edits that you make will be disregarded, as we will be able to view what you first typed in. Therefore, before submitting here, feel free to DISCUSS THESE QUESTIONS WITH OTHER FANS in this thread HERE.

So with that, let’s reveal the questions involved and see who is blessed with an eye towards the future, after the jump!
