How did you first find out about SMYN?

How did you first find out about SMYN?
I even told this story briefly during my interview in the recent video episode.

I thought SMYN was not going to succeed. I listened to Youko's first couple episodes and found it quite boring. Youko fortunately proved me wrong and caused the show to evolve. Youko eventually gave me a shoutout for my work on the SmashTV series for Smash World News (formerly the Smash Blog). This got me back into listening to the podcast, and I was thoroughly impressed by this point with what Youko had done with the podcast. I applied to be a guest on the show, and I got my chance. The rest is history.

So, technically, I was there when the podcast started, but I was not a fan until midway through season 2.

You? Smile

RE: How did you first find out about SMYN?
I listened from the first time I saw the topic about it, around the first few episodes. I can't tag it for a for-sure time, sadly, but it was just after E3, I think. It gave me something to listen to when I wasn't in the mood for music, and it soon became something I looked forward to. While I never finished any work for the contests that allowed regular joes like me to get on the podcast, I at least claim to have had the first Mailtime question. I'm really glad to have seen this project evolve, and to have followed it from early on.

It's been over two years since it started.

Freakin' legend.

Are you serious? Freakin' crap, that's... Yeah, I guess you're right. That's really awesome that the project has lived on, even past it's original purpose. Sign of greatness right there.

RE: How did you first find out about SMYN?
I actually first listened the week Sonic was announced; just randomly searching through seeing what other people thought of the announcement. Once I had my first taste of SMYN, I was hooked, especially once I found out that Youko and Panda both went to UMich. Then I got my lucky break when I won the Top 10 contest (I still regret not coming up with a #1, but I had completely run out of ideas), and since then, it's just been one thing after another...

I remember Youko advertising his first episode in the Dawn Patrol thread. I've been a fan ever since.

RE: How did you first find out about SMYN?
I had searched "Super Smash Bros." on iTunes on day. I found this weird thing called Show Me Your News" with 5 episodes. Woah, this is a podcast? A weekly podcast? Awesome! I download all 5 episodes that were out at the time, put them on my iPod, and listen to every episode in one sitting during a long car ride to my cousin's house. I'm dying for moar. I never thought much about the Dojo until SMYN started. In fact, I didn't care about Brawl at all. SMYN got me hyped. I was a casual listener that wasn't part of the real community up until I visited SWF around episode 37. I made an account, visited stickam, listened in, then Buzz said he hated me because I didn't like Linux pre-podcast.

Awesome first exposure to the SMYN community, huh?

Anyway, I get more involved by posting in the SMYN thread on SWF. At that time, Youko played games with Swordy from time-to-time on stickam. I think I said something along the lines of "I know like every line from SMYN ever." kind of as a joke. Then, this guy named Darkurai asks me trivia questions on things said in the podcast. I think I got every one of them right.

Somehow, that gave me modship on the SMYN forums. Now, I'm a conceited prick SUPAH MAWD Super Moderator here at the new, bigger, better SMYN Forums.
geez that was longer than i thought it was gonna be

RE: How did you first find out about SMYN?
My sister started listening first, actually, and she told me about it and I was like "Eh sure. I'll try it." So I put the episodes on iTunes, and I distinctly remember listening to episodes 19 and 20 while playing Super Mario Galaxy. I remember being in the Beehive Galaxy whilst hearing the conception of All Clocks.

Well, me and CyberLink decided we needed at least one person that had authority but we could still boss around, and you seemed acceptable. Tongue

I don't even remember how I started listening to it. I'm pretty sure you downloaded it first and then I just decided to listen to it. Or we listened to it together. I don't even know.

My memory's like, gone. All I know is that it had to do with Dark.
